For four and a half years volunteers have worked tirelessly to take a Georgian Walled Garden from secret wilderness to a lovely free park for all. Visitors stroll through the seven acre site enjoying the herbaceous border, rose garden, sensory garden and interior of the walled garden. There is even a riverside area. Few such lovely places can be visited with no expense. Visits to the garden are steadily increasing and the whole site is wheelchair friendly.
Work in the sensory garden progresses and what was mud a short time ago is now a lovely garden to enjoy. The pictures show chairman Dave Watton and Steve Eley erecting a lovely self made six sided oak fame. This will provide a covered seating area at the heart of the sensory garden. The building will be slated and have bench seats between the uprights. Wheelchair access has also been catered for.
The project team achieve this by running events such as the Folk and Real ale do in the summer and the coming bonfire night extravaganza. The walled garden is hugely atmospheric with the walls fire lit and the trees outlined against the sky. The fireworks burst above the walled garden.
Gates will open at 5pm giving a chance to enjoy a mouth-watering BBQ with local meat from Peter Coates. Free glow necklaces will be available for the first two hundred children. Parents can enjoy a glass of wine or Real Ales. Entertainment will start at half past five with Ras King Bobo the 1st a Ghanaian fire-eater.
There will be music from 6.00 pm. The firework display will start at 7pm and will be every bit as spectacular as last year. The raffle will be drawn and the bar open for those who want to stay and enjoy the fire.
Every penny raised from the event will go to keeping the garden free for everyone to enjoy for the next twelve months. Get your tickets early to avoid disappointment. They are £6.00 for adults. £3.00 for under 16 and under 5 free.
